QUESTIONNAIRE  INSTRUCTIONS

This questionnaire is designed to help me develop a track plan that best suits to your needs and wants.

NOTE:  Accurate floor plan measurements are critical to developing a buildable track plan.

(I'll accept either computer generated floor plan drawings or a hand drawn plan.)

Please include the following information with a floor plan drawing:
1. The shape of the space, include accurate measurements (to within a 1/4 of an inch).
2. The locations of all obstructions that could affect benchwork/track work, including;
    (a) Stairway locations with dimensions.
    (b) All support posts with exact locations measured from at least two directions.
    (c) Doors (measure width from outside edge of trim to outside edge of trim, also include whether the door swings in or out)
    (d) Windows (measure width from outside edge of trim to outside edge of trim, can the window can be blocked with a backdrop?)
    (e) Closet doors (measure width from outside edge of trim to outside edge of trim, and include type of door, ex. bifold, sliders, etc.)
    (f) Any jut outs or jut ins (with measurements) that could affect the benchwork design
    (g) Location of electrical panel (include the total width and the bottom edge distance from the floor)
    (h) Location of washer & dyer (if they could affect the benchwork design)
    (i) Location of furnace & hot water heaters (if they could affect the benchwork design)
    (j) List any additional obstructions that would affect the benchwork.

Again, accurate dimensions and locations of all obstructions is critical to designing an accurate floor plan.

NOTE: I highly recommend using a laser when measuring.

Single track requires less space and is more operations oriented, double track mainline requires more space and is used more often for display oriented layouts. Double track also requires a higher minimum radii.
Most continuous run track plans need some type of lift-out or lift up!
Rail Fanning means your main interest is watching trains run. Operations based means you want to hold op sessions and have the layout operate like the real railroads.
List all prototypes you plan on modeling.
Is there a certain area, branchline or sub-division you want to model from the prototype?
How many operators do you plan on having run the layout?
    Length affects minimum radius!
    Length affects minimum radius!
Important: Atlas Customline & Atlas Super-Track are not the same! If you already have turnouts, please list them in the comments box at the end of the questionnaire.
Having a list of existing structures helps with planning the overall layout look.
